Bond, Bean & Buff blokes.
Posted 9:10 AM on Mon-30-Jul-2012
Very English. The phrase that comes to mind when I think of the Olympic games opening ceremony. A perfect depiction of English history, and although somber in parts, it was basically exactly what I expected. Not the glitz and glamor other countries have put on in the past, but in saying that, when I think of England (not having been there admittedly) I think of old things, tradition, bricks, Mr Bean ...

Oh yes, thank goodness for Rowan Atkinson's parents I say. What a comedic genius, and if I may, the highlight of the whole ceremony. And how lucky is old Queenie having the luxury of working along side Daniel Craig **blush**. I wonder who would have been more star struck there, her majesty or his bondness? Equal amounts of respect I am sure.

I'm so glad to have some sport to watch other than the usual rugby, netball and motor racing. Over the weekend I've enjoyed taking in some rowing, gymnastics & swimming. Thank goodness the swimmers have snapped out of their coverall stage with their swimming togs, not sure about the men with shaved armpits though - what is that all about? They look all buff and manly, then they lift their arms up to wave and it doesn't look quite right to me!

I look forward to the next couple of weeks, and what will hopefully be some nail biting finals. Our athletes are small fish in a big pond, but there are certainly some shining stars amongst them.

Go JO!

I found the opening ceremony to be boring apart from the already mentioned, lol.
I have always enjoyed watching the olympics but are wondering whether I can go on with so little sleep.
I love to watch our New Zealand competitors live, especially when they are in contention for a medal.
Looks like I will be living on coffee, coffee and more coffee!
Oh and the kids are loving watching too!

Having lived in the UK for 13 years and married to a "pommie" we are all enjoying the chance to cheer on two countries :) My boys are loving it and have been watching the swimming and gymnastics.

Highlights of the opening ceremony for us were definitely Rowan Atkinson, Bond, the forging of the rings and the beautiful cauldron but the rest was boring and odd and subsequently an utter disappointment.
