Stop and smell the roses
Posted 9:03 AM on Tue-11-Sep-2012
I've decided I need to see the world through the eyes of a child more often. Kids are so amazed at the world around them, and often as an adult we're so busy getting to where we need to be or doing what we need to be doing that we don't stop and smell the roses so to speak.

Take the other day for example. Pocket and I had some errands to run up the road before we collected The Legend from school. It looked like rain and the towels I had hanging on the clothesline were on my mind. Quickly I hurried Pocket along by the hand so as to get to where we were going as fast as possible before the rain set in. A sudden jolt of the arm and I found myself taking a step backwards in the opposite direction to which we were walking. "Look mummy, look at the beautiful butterfly" exclaimed a gorgeous voice from behind me. It was at that moment that I thought to myself "pffffft, towels, who really cares". She was right, it really was a beautiful butterfly, and the flower it was perched upon was so radiant.

If only as adults had no weight on our shoulders. If only we took notice of the little things like the bright shiny eyes of a child do. I wonder how many wonders of nature I miss in any one day simply because I'm too busy thinking about what's for dinner, or if there are clean work clothes to wear tomorrow.

Go JO!

This is so beautiful. This is the beauty of mother and child. As mothers, we worry too much while our kids tell us that there should be play time, as well. I think children give balance to our busy lives., if we only stop and think.
