And then it hit the fan
Posted 1:51 PM on Thu-20-Sep-2012
Months of anticipation and today is the eve of our trip to Tahiti. Earlier in the week I blogged about having wonderful inlaws. Well, thank goodness for them 100% more now.

Spring being in the air, yesterday my lovely Ma decided she'd do a bit of cleaning in their campervan. And then she decided she'd fall and break her wrist. Her good wrist. She broke the other a couple of years ago. Ma was supposed to be doing the first babysitting shift while we flit off for a week. After spending the afternoon at the local hospital yesterday, and being sent home for the night, today she's over in Waikato having surgery possibly as I type this, possibly not til tomorrow, to put some plating in her seriously munted wrist.

And this is where the inlaws come in. I text them last night, after a couple of wines to calm my nerves, (oh and some potato chips, and milky bar) not expecting a reply til this morning, then, at 6am, fresh off a flight from San Francisco we get a text 'Oh no! Poor Grandma, do you want us to come right away'? Crazy crazy people, who'd want to come to madness sporting jet lag? Not me that's for sure! But that's my inlaws for you. Family comes first and they'll drop what they're doing in an instant to be there.

After a quick phone call we have arranged for them to arrive to meet us before we drive up to the airport. A day early, and changing shifts with us rather than the other grannies.

So it all turned out in the end, although I think Ma could have chosen a much less painful way to get out of babysitting duty!

Go JO!
