Yay for the Salies
Posted 6:01 PM on Wed-8-Aug-2012
I have decided that the Salvation Army are just the best... I mean I've always known that they do good work for the community and help people in need etc; this time, however I am in love with them from a totally selfish perspective!Since we have just moved house, we have decided to get rid of a whole load of stuff from dresser draws, and beds to toys and clothing. We have got two queen sized beds which we have no use for any longer, a whole heap of kids' clothes and clothes which I have never worn and three sets of draws as well as an old TV even! So, rather than go through the Trademe rigmarole, (mostly because I couldn't be bothered listing everything and then answering any queries blah, blah, blah) I decided to call the local Salvation Army Family Store and low and behold, the lovely lady who answered the phone said not only would they be happy to take whatever we could give them, but that they would have a truck come and pick everything up at a time which suited me!I SOOOOOOOOO HEART THEM!!! Not only do I not have to go through the hassle of listing things for sale, but I don't even have to deliver the stuff anywhere!Plus, it kind of makes me feel good to know that maybe a person in need will be the recipient of our pre-loved goods, or that someone might purchase them from the Family Store and help the Salvation Army keep on with their work in the community. So in case you didn't know or in case you have forgotten, I'd like to encourage everyone to think of donating your pre-loved and unwanted items to your local Salvation Army store... the truck is coming to get our things on Friday and all I have had to do is sort out what we no longer want or need and have it packed ready for them to collect!Yay for more space, yay for passing on to those in need and yay for The Salvation Army!

It's been great to get rid of all the things we no longer need! I feel like I've lost pound and kilos of extra weight!lol

And now that I have de-cluttered, it is so easy to keep the house tidy and clean! LOVE IT!!! Thanks again Sallies!!! xxx

I love the Sallies too! When we first got to NZ it was a fantastic place to find the basics to set up home as then any new stuff seemed to cost the earth! Now my kids and I love going there on a Friday after school and we still always find great treasures! It's nice knowing your purchase is going towards helping the Community.

They are wonderful aren't they! I used to shop there for al the kids clothes but all my local stores have been destroyed in the earthquakes so I haven't been for 2 years. But we have always given our unwanted things away to them rather than selling them. its nice to bless others when we have been blessed ourselves. I agree about the TM hassle.. photos, listings, fees = no worth it for me anymore. I also use free cycle to give our things away.

I love Sallies too, I give my toys clothes etc there but also shop there as well, BC (before children) I used to go about once a week for a poke around and always found wonderful things and now I just go when I find time.

I love the Sallies too but for shopping!!!! I tend to go in once a month or so and ALWAYS find bargains! Whether its clothes or funky dishes or retro furniture! I dont know where I would be without them!

We used the Salies when we moved house a few years ago and it certainly took the hassle out of getting rid of our unwanted goods. They also came to pick the stuff up in a truck and it was nice to know someone in need would eventually have our goods and helping out the salvation army was a bonus :)
