Ok, so I probably don't fit into the category of 'bookworm' but I do like to read the odd book, and around Christmas time I asked a few of the girls if they'd be interested in starting a book club. Being that we all have no lives (lol) it was decided that a once monthly get together to talk about our latest reads would be the perfect little gathering of Mums.Last night was our third 'meeting', and since we'd only been talking about our recent reads, I decided it was time to move things up a notch. I talked to our lovely librarians and one suggested doing an author a month. Brilliant! So, yesterday, in five opaque plastic bags I placed a book, each from the

Ok ladies & gentlemen, I have a challenge for you... I recently started a book club. It's not your traditional book club where we all buy a book, read it, then talk about it. We have just been bringing along our latest book and sharing it with the group. On talking to the lovely ladies at the local library, I have discovered that if we make a list of some titles we'd like to read, they can check around the affiliated libraries to see if they have enough copies so each member of our group could read the same book - like a REAL book club lol.So, fellow Kidspotters, your challenge, if you chose to accept it, is to hit me with some book titles, or authors which you think would make

In an attempt to get back to some sort of credible post-summer routine in our household, I've implemented an earlier bedtime for my boys, with 20 minutes of reading before lights out. Mister 10 is reading a novel about assassins in ancient Italy ... whatever floats you boat, I say ... with a sprinkling of bible stories. Mister 8 meanwhile is reading The Fellowship of the Ring, the first of JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books. It's hard going yes, I mean he's only eight after all. But he is so determined to read the whole book having watched the movies a dozen times that I'm not about to stop him. His reading is improving each and every night. Though how he manages

Well after all the talk about e-readers lately I went and purchased a Kindle. I brought just the basic version and boy am I lving it, I don't seem to be able to put it down. In the two days since having it, I have finished 2 whole books and have downloaded plenty more free ones through Amazon. The kids are loving it too and I may need more than one!As I am new to the e-reader communtiy are there any tips or hints on finding free books and does anyone know where to purchase Amazon vouchers?

I had a fantastic night out with friends last night. A no boys...err... men allowed outing, where apon we sat and chatted about everything and nothing and enjoyed a good curry. It has been so long since i have done something like that and oh my what a feeling! Anywho, as we sat down another friend, was seated at the table next. He just so happens to be a writer. I love writing. And tho my blogs may not be all that whitty or interesting, and love putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard. I have many unfinished books, several short stories, and no guts to publish. I havn't touched any of my manuscripts in years. In just a five minute conversation i have been inspired to

You know you're stuck in a good book when you toss up between going to be early or reading 'just a little bit more'. I am stuck in a good book at the moment.I've found at our library, of course there are thousands of titles to choose from, but they're sneaky. When new books come in, you have to pay $2 for the privilege of reading them. At first I turned my nose up at this idea, but I have discovered there is a reason why they charge for them. The pay as you go books are usually really good, and hey, it's two bucks, I doesn't break the bank, and it saves me from having to fork out $30 odd for something that'll start to gather dust after a couple of week

| How many tones of what?

I've become rather aware lately of a certain book that is all the rage at the moment. So many tones of a certain bleak colour - or something along those lines. You know the one I mean.Someone sent me a link providing the first chapter, and so curiously, I decided to have a read. There were no steamy bits (excuse the pun) in the first chapter, but how on earth anyone managed to read passed the chapter is beyond me. What dribble. Had there not been any hype about the book, it isn't one I'd have bothered with if I'd picked it up on the library shelf and read the first page or two. And yet, I'm seeing many comments on social media about how wonderful this book is and how

I have just finished reading the much talked about 50 Shades of Grey. It's pretty risque and not the type of book I will be passing on to my mother to read :P! I was quite shocked at first (when I finally cottened on to what it was about) as I was recommended it by a friend as a love story. Thinking back now, when the lady in the bookshop looked at me with a wink and said it was 'gooood', perhaps I should of realised then that there was a little bit more to it! So here I was just getting into the lovey dovey stuff when I turned the page and bam! This was almost a 1/4 way through before even realisin

| Book orders - a conspiracy

Is it just me, or do Lucky book club orders do everyone's heads in?I remember taking home the pamphlet when I was school aged, but I most certainly do not remember them being handed out as often as The Legend brings them home.I'm all for reading, don't get me wrong, but sheesh talk about in ya face junk mail! We must get one a month I'm sure. Sometimes Pocket gets them from daycare too, but I can easily turf hers in the bin before she sees. If she does see it however, it's not so much the nagging of wanting a book, it's the mini war breaks out if she has his or he has hers or they touched mine and so on and so forth! And of course as a rational adult I know as w

| Under the Mercy Trees

I'm really getting into this reading thing. I have myself a really good book at the moment called Under the Mercy Trees by Heather Newton. As I've mentioned before, I don't read many books, but this year I really wanted to make more effort, mostly due to The Legend having become somewhat of a bookworm, and already a year ahead of himself with his reading level..Yesterday, another trip to the library and this time I found a book for the bloke to read too. He's not much of a reader either, more into his Trucking or Fishing magazines than he is into reading novels. He was told of a book, however, about the history of the boat he recently went on for a weekend charter, he hap
