Description:

As parents we are keen to ensure we provide our children with all of the tools they need to grow, thrive and learn. This group is dedicated to discussing our favourite toys for toddlers and how they can help our child develop.

Each week for 4 weeks in June 2010, one winner will won over $200 worth of LEGO DUPLO.

The Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Cookie Shape Sorter will introduce shapes and numbers to your toddler. There are 5 colourful shapes which can be pushed through the corresponding holes and when your child is successful, they will be rewarded with fun sounds, phrases, sing along songs and lights, so it teaches the child to have hand and eye coordination. You can also control the volume for quiet play. Age range 6 months+.

I was the lucky winner of the Duplo prize for week 1. As you can see from the photo my 19 month old is really enjoying playing with it. He likes tipping the blocks out of the box and putting them back in, and joining the pieces together and pulling them apart again. He is learning the names of animals and the noises they make from the big Farmyard pack, and the pack with the numbers on the blocks will be useful when he gets older and is learning to count. Thank you very much Kidspot!

My favourite toy was Alf, I won a talking Alf doll when I was little (thanks to my mum), his eyes, mouth, ears and eybrows moved too; I still have him can't bear to part with him. I was a little Alf mad. My other favourite toy was my glow bug as I was a little afraid of the dark, I slept with it every night and took it out everywhere. Of course we always played with lego, barbies, my little ponies and wooden blocks. You can still buy glow bugs and lego and also barbies so they have all stood the test of time in my opinion. The my little ponies are making a come back too. Well there are a lot of toys you can still buy that I played with when I was little, they are just a bit more modern. Oh yeah the tupperware shapeO, a must have in a kiwi home.

Anything to do with dolls and babies. She loves using her imagination so I encourage that. She also has started to enjoy putting things together such as puzzles and building things

Gosh, there are so many...Cars, trucks and trains are always a favourite in this household as they can be pushed around and lined up. My daughter also likes her pram which was a bargain at a school fair and the schliech animals we all love. My son has been known to load the pushchair up with animals and run around the house like a mini tornado.

The most recent favourite are ukeleles we got for the kids birthdays. Daddy has one which he plays with the students at school and which the kids have always coveted so now they have one each, a blue for my son and a purple for my daughter. My son seems to think he is a rock star and plays along with CDs and has even made up a few songs which he has strummed along to. They have been fabulous, especially in this wet weather.

Me and my son like the blocks the best, he learns the shapes and colours of them and how to balance them when making houses. We have heaps of fun and he learns while playing.

Now that our grandson is walking he likes anything that will move with him. At our place his favourite toy is an old winnie the pooh ball that he can kick or throw and then chase.
