Hi everyone, we found out a few days ago at a 9 week scan we have two babys!! I am still very shocked, we already have two children so I haven't been sleeping well wondering how we will cope...I know we will because we have to...dad has come round to the idea pretty well... We wasn't told whether they are Identical or not, I guess its too early to tell, but two heartbeats :) Anyone have any advice or are in similar situation,,,, I also had a small bleed showing on scan, my MW has told me its common but doesn't stop me worrying...I havem't been bleeding however.

Congratulations!
Your Plunket nurse should be able to refer you to group of parents with multiple children.  Why not join Parents Centre in your area?
Do take care of yourself.

Congratulations!! I have 4.5 year old identical twin boys plus a 2.5 yr old and a 10mth old!! You will be fine :) Twins are hard work but so much fun. Join your local multiple birth club (call 0800 489 467 to find the one closest to you) as they are a wealth of information and experience!! You will be able to find other parents who are having twins after other children or have had them and can share their tips and tricks!!  If you have pre-school ages children you will qualify for non-means tested help through WIN
Z.....240 hrs of help during the twins 1st year (you can "employ" Nana to come in and do your cleaning, or to look after the older kids.....up to you how you use it! Soemone at the twin club will be able to help with the ins and outs of it)
Take good care of yourself as twin pregnancies are pretty demanding physically....eat and drink plenty to keep your energy levels ups, growing 2 babies is hungry work :)

Hi, congratulations!! We had exactly the same shock. We had a 5 year old and a 3 year old and told we were expecting twins!! Took me a good few weeks to get my head around it, but took "dad" all of 10 seconds - it's very exciting. Definitely look after yourself during the pregnancy, it's very demanding and tiring. Our twins are 6 months old now and it's so much fun. It's definitely hard work, but our older 2 children are great with them. Definitely use your 240 hours that you get from the government, I use mine for a cleaner and I'm about to get someone in to help out with breakfast, now they are starting solids. Say "yes" to everyone who offers to help in any way - meals, cloths, picking up other kids from school, kindy etc. Most of all, enjoy it - it is a lot of fun!!

Thank you for your messages :) I am getting used to the idea now, but I will be happy once we reach 12 weeks and can check everything is ok on scan, and ask a few more questions. My man is so excited, he came round to the idea really quickly too...which is great! I guess I am the worryer and I guess its natural as I have to carry them. I am lucky that I have a dd who is already a great sister to her brother, she will be 10 when the twins arrive, and I am sure she will mother them too :) Not sure how our DS is going to react...the hard part is that we don't have family in NZ, I got over my homesickness int he past year, and I am scared its going to get worse, I have history of PND too, so want to stay strong for all of us.

Congratulations on the news of your pregnancy-thats wonderful.I would put the panic/excitement of twins on hold until your twelve week scan.I dont want to put a damper on things but I had  a scan at 8weeks and had two heartbeats.I freaked out for a bit until my next scan at twelve weeks and by then one of the heartbeats had vanished-no physical sympoms at all.We were blessed with a beautiful baby girl which was great.Whatever your outcome Good luck and all will be what's meant to be :-)

Hiya, CONGRATULATIONS! I have twin 15month old boys and a 4yr old girl. The first advise I would offer is if its worrying you go for another scan. I had several scans between 7weeks and 12weeks. Just ask your LMC or GP. They shouldnt refuse as it will mean it gives you peace of mind and you wont stress so its better for the babies. Next I would highly recommend joining the Multiple Birth Club, they are wonderful and offer so much advise and support! (heres the facebook page for Tauranga http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tauranga-Multiple-Birth-Group/142198485818584) The have a buddy system where they buddy you up if you want with someone who has been thru what you are going thru that now has older twins its a great help. You will be fine, you always find a way to manage. And to be totally honest with you although my twins are in no way identical (they could tell me that from my 7week scan ... oh and the bleeding is normal at the start of twin pregnancys)they did everything at the exact same time! So they were easier for me than having one child. My other pieces of advise are to use the free homehelp the govt give you http://www.workandincome.govt.nz/individuals/a-z-benefits/home-help.html and just take it as it comes. Try not to listen to too many horror stories, alot of twin pregnancies make it to 38+ weeks, I did, so dont worry before you have to about SCBU and prem babies etc. Sometimes its only going to be as hard as you make it, so if you keep positive you will be ok. It gets way easier as they get older as they are less dependent on you because they always have someone else there to play with, its great. And on bad days I use to thank my lucky stars I only had twins and not triplets.... at least I have two arms and two boobs for my babies lol

Congratulations on being an expectant Twin family.  It is such an amazing time.
I would suggest you contact the NZMultiple Birth Association 08004twins and find out if there is a twin club in your area.  Join and rack their brains for lots of information.
Our twins are coming up 8 and they are a blast. They have an amazing bond with each other and their brother who was two when they were born.  Once you get over the shock its amazing.
Cheers
M

Being parents are a Blessing being parents of Twin is Double Blessing. As a mother of twin, I understand that it will be double the trouble in all sense, money/clothes/toys, but double the Fun as well double  hugs/kisses/ so so much love all around when u have twins.
Most of the areas have their own multiple Birth Clubs and they are quite a help with everything.....sorting out your twin strollers, car seats, feeding pillow,  n much much more.
All the best!
