Best / Worst Preggy Announcement Responses

I'm thick skinned enough not to care, but today, had one of the 'best / worst' responses ever to someone finding out I was pregnant. I've had laughing / jokes and all the usual. But today, it was something new.

"Well, I thought you were foolish when you had 4. I suppose 5 isn't really any worse."

I'm sure you've got something better. I'd love to hear them, they're always good for a giggle. My husband jumping up and down whooping is always pretty good, but one of my favourites is still my 4 year old's response (to this pregnancy, he was 3 at the time):

"We're having a baby! Will it be a sister or a brother?". The dance this was accompanied by was simply delightful.

Anyway... what are you favourite / most hated responses to sharing your news?

Oh emjane! how could someone say that! that's terrible! Anyway I personally think that its awesome that you are having number 5!! I would love a big family also!

I think the worst one I have had is 'you little slut!' guess thats what you get when you are 16. I have never really had anyone over joyed for any of my birth announcements. I was 18 when the second one arrived (for those of you new to this site, please don't judge until you know the full story...) And when the 3rd arrived people just asked, 'don't you know what causes it'.

I personally get over excited about people's birth announcements. Babies are a blessing, and all should be celebrated!

wow Sarah and Emjane.... how rude can people be?
My favourite response so far was when we told our Inlaws and 2 children at the same time. The kids were 3 and 4 ( nearly 5) years old. We gave my inlaws a poem that announced it and there were tears in my MIL's eyes, but the best was when my 5 year old daughter, after listening to the poem came up to me and asked very excitedly - " Are you pregnant Mummy?" It was such a surprise as my little girl seemed so grown up and knew exactly what was going on! Hearing her ask me if I was pregnant ( rather than having a baby in my tummy) was a classic moment.

I worked n a rest home before my lil girl arrived. One of the residents asked me how old i was, i replied 27,  was then asked, 'arent you  too old to start a family? i was married and had my first when i was 21' *sigh* good for you lady, things change.
My nana told my sister how was 20 when her first came that us "young ones" are so backwards, having children before marriage and owning a house, what is the world coming to?
My friends who all had kiddies years before me just responded "about bloody time"

Wow, thats so harsh. i hate people judging and criticizing to your face it is so rude and disrespectful. I never told anyone i was expecting either of my girls until a week before their due dates. (All my family are in England). One woman stopped me in Newmarket and was cooing about wonders of motherhood and then my husband came back from the fitting rooms and her nose shot into the air and said "he is the father?!, has no-one told you never to mix. That poor kid, god bless it"... I nearly burst into tears. My husband is Chinese and i am English. We have had a few sneers about us but our girls are both beautiful and most importantly loved. I love hearing people are expectng and expanding their families.

My funniest response was when we told my dad that we were expecting our first child (his first grandchild) - he tried to shake my hand!! Needless to say I didn't accept that and pulled him into a hug instead. Funny awkward father moment! :P

Mostly I've just had positive responses and hugs!  But when I was pregnant with my first baby (at age 30), my Dad said "well, as long as that's what you want".... Of course it was! But what a terrible thing to say.  At least my Mum said "it's about time!"  (her first grandchild).

Oh my! Some of these are terribly hurtful. We had been trying for 5 years and had lost a daughter (born too soon) so when we told everyone we were pregnant everyone was really happy for us. I can't imagine it any other way

I can't believe people are so crude. I agree babies are a blessing and regardless of the mothers age all pregnancies really are a miracle. I wish I could have 5 or 6 or even 10 babies (if I could afford ten!) but we have fertility problems and I currently have just the one "darling miracle" with the every day hope of having more.... so mothers young and old... ignore those grumpy old "hags" that make these remarks... it seems as life develops some women only get more and more bitter about "What may have been - what could have been" and the evidence lies on the tip of their sharp little tongues. Celebrate your babies and laugh! Laugh at the ignorance of some people and BREED BREED BREED! After all, that truly is our most valuable asset, the ability to pro-create. xx

sent emjane a response to this which i like to share.
we have 5 children and always had comments that obviously we havent a tv, and bout time hubby got the snip. Our last 3 children are ivf (set twins and single) and so very planned and wanted, after a number of rounds of treatment we had the twins then last baby 8mths is result of 1st try frozen embreyo. We know we are very lucky.
People so quick to judge, Im asked alot " You arent Having any more are you" If it was that easy. I agree all babies are such a blessing.
