Ok everyone, when would you start to worry about poo - or lack of it happening at the right time. Pocket is now 3 1/2 and when she wore nappies, her regular time was early afternoon for #2's. Now that she's in knickers during the day, Pull Ups at night, she does a poo during the night - not every night either, every 2nd or 3rd night.

Every night before shower time we sit there and I try to get her to go. I also try before we do school pick up.

So, when do you start to worry that something isn't right? Or is it just that something doesn't gel yet? She had about a week of doing poos on the loo and wore Knickers at night the nights she did it, but then we went right back to square one again.

Hey Jo, that im aware its quite normal for kids to go 4-6 days without going, however as your daughter was going daily, then I can see why you would worry. If she is going every second night, this is still good.
Number 2's seem to be the hardest to train kids with during toilet training. Some get it straight away, and others will hold on for as long as possible and panic when it just starts to come out. Or, as with Pocket, wait until the familiar pull up is on.

For most kids I have toilet trained, this has been the chase. And with a little gentle encouragement, and a little bribery  we got there in the end!
I always use a sticker chart.... with incentive. You can do this two ways. A sticker chart, with the added bonus of a lollie for success. Its best to use whatever there favourite small lollies are (eg pebbles or marshmellows etc) and be prepared to have to offer them at breakfast. A deal is a deal!

Or a sticker chart, with the incentive of a very cool gift to be given when the chart is full. I like to buy these gifts and wrap them , and place them somewhere where the kids can see, but can't reach, for added incentive. Start the chart off small, with say 5 or so spaces to fill and then the gift to be given. If its too big, she may feel its too much like hard work, and will not bother trying. Once you have had success with that chart, make another, but make it bigger. Make the goals a little harder to reach each time :). This should work well for her, as you have said that she has previously been using the toilet, so she may have just lost a little confidence.

Good luck Jo!

thanks Sarah. We've tried sticker charts, but I think we really need to start one up again. First, I need to find her currency!

4am this morning:

Now while I 'm not so keen on this becoming a habit, I'm pretty excited that Pocket called out to me in the night that she had a sore tummy, when I went in and asked her if she needed to go poos she said "yes, take me to the toilet" We sat there for ages, and she didn't go, but baby steps like this an perhaps we will get there!

I've had issues with my lil man holding it.  So much so that he had severe hip pain... and a fissure.  We ended up putting him on Lactulose to make his stools soft and keep him regular.
Lately though (because I'd slipped reading to him in the bathroom) I've resorted to sitting him down on the toilet b4 bed and just reading him a book or 2 of his choice again.  He loves that time together but it gets boring afta awhile and if he's holding it he drops his load just so he can get his cold lil bum off the seat and hop into a nice warm bed.
My son would strain and pass hard bowel motions so I knew he was either holding it or not drinking enuff water...if his tummy started to ache again and he was straining I gave him Lactulose to soften it and get his bowel moving...so he couldn't hold it.
