For babies who are wriggly & active by the time winter arrives, I think the best is to make sure we dress them up in multiple layers of warm clothing, put on woollen socks on their little feet and top it all off with a snuggly sleepsuit...for this to succeed, make sure the sleepsuit you buy is much larger than your baby, otherwise with multiple layers of clothes, she ain't gonna fit in!  My 2nd son doesn't like having blankets piled on top of him. He always manages to detect even a light soft blanket & kick it off in frustration, so I've got to dress him up in lotsa layers.

I agree - I loved dressing up my babies in winter... all snug and warm. We have always used sleeping bags inside the bed. Otherswise bubs would kick their way up to the top and over the blankets & sheets.  William does that now, so he HAS to sleep in a sleeping bag otherwise he'd wake up cold :-( even during day naps)

I have four children, one born in each season. I enjoyed my winter baby because it was a good excuse to stay home cuddled up by the fire. Nothing like snuggling up with baby and watching heaps of movies! I even used to bath my babies in the lounge by the fire, it makes for a nice scene for a baby massage. Congrats and enjoy!

To Krystalmarie
Get hold of a sleeping bag. Polar fleece if you can, with long sleeve arms and fold over sleeves. All my kiddies moved alot at night. Sleeping bags are the easiest option.

We also used a safety sleep to keep out bubs from wriggling up and out of bed. It was brilliant and kept her snug and safe. She was in a sleeping bag too and could roll from side to side I think but not move up the bed.

Hi, I found having a winter baby good as they don't wriggle out of blankets and don't need outdoor play. When she was out in the pram or car seat snuggly blankets kept her warm.
I was a fan of wool which isn't fashionable at the moment. Knitted wool vests were great as she was warm with these over her domed singlets. Soft woollen hats were great too.
For night-time cotton sleepwear with access for nappy change worked well.
Having a toddler that doesn't like shoes is more of a challenge! I gather she will get used to them when it gets cold enough.

I don't know what kind of heating you use but with a heat pump I was never worried she would get cold. With 3 kids maybe you would be eligible for the govt insulation subsidy of the house is not warm?

Lilylie, oh we've just installed a new heat pump in our house last week! So yes, I wouldn't worry about the winter chill now. My hubby said that it's much more efficient to use a heat pump as it can warm up the entire 2nd level, so he went ahead to arrange for it to be installed......and nope, no govt subsidy as it's a new house.

He or she will be a lucky baby.
One heater we have found great is the panel heaters for bedrooms - we got an 'econoheat'. Goldair does one too, as we are about to get another for the lounge so I don't need to use the heat pump so much.
They use only double the wattage as a towel rail so extremely cheap. (200 watts). We used it in our room last winter with baby and had to use a timer as it got so warm.
This is babies first winter in her own room and already the panel heater is great as she can stay warm without blankets as she pushes them off. She just lies in warm PJs with feet in them. It is on half the night without affecting the power bill, much.
It must be exciting adding to your family.

hi everyone,
I'm expecting my first baby in July 2012 too! I'm a bit worried about keeping baby warm as i have lots of onesies but no cardigans or jerseys yet. i guess theres plenty of time to get them though, merino is a good idea though, and i have a one year old snow suit i was given so that'll come i handy later on,
Has anyone got any ideas for anything else i might need to get for baby?
Thanks , jane
