I am due at the end of october and although I am not unhappy about the impending birth of our daughter I dont feel an overwhelming sense of excitement most of my friends have older children and are all happy that there is going to be a new baby in the group but at times I think that they are looking forward to it more than I am.

I never felt overly excited - i found it hard to beleive at first and was a little excited but never bursting with excitement. I know some people who are and i guess in some way i envied them. I kind of saw it as something i was doing. I was awed when they were born tho that my body had made that. Its pretty amazing.

Good to know that I am not the only one, as I said I am not unhappy, I think that it is the expectations of others a couple of my friends have commented on my lack of enthusiasum but asides from eating right staying healthy and learning what I feel I need to I am not sure what else I am expected to do, I dont have any desire for my pregnancy to be the main topic of conversation as a I have pointed out on a few occasions there is a whole world of other things to talk about asides from that people alway look a little shocked, I have a great and supportive partner and life is really pretty good I am just not a jumping out of my skin kind of person and honestly my major feeling is probably being a bit overwhelmed

I was excited with my first, but not so much with my second. He was a surprise and there's only 19 months between him and his sister. I anticipated it being hard work to start with (and it is!) and so I was never really very excited at the thought of sleepless nights again and having a very active toddler to entertain during the day. I felt like everyone else was more excited than me too, but I always felt guilty having those thoughts.

I do see why some people get excited, I am one of "those" people, but only because I tried so hard and for so long to get pregnant that I was OVER THE MOON when i finally fell pregnant and every time I talk to someone who is pregnant I expect they will have the same enthusiasm I did and to be honest I never really thought about the fact that they might not. I don't think there is anything wrong with feeling overwhelmed, what a crazy world you are about to enter with a new baby... I wouldn't worry, or curb other peoples enthusiasm as you want them to be keen to help you once the baby comes.. get that enthusiasm working on something that counts like making you a coffee of tidying your house!!!!!

Gloworm i posted this on fb for ya but incase ya didnt see it :
Its natural to feel like that .. my sister was really sick in her pregnancy (she had a midwife that didnt do her job or do any scans / tests etc and my sister ended up really ill with even blood poisoning and UTI infections and ended up in the HDU ward (high dependancy) in waikato hospital .. and was ill for prob 80% of the pregnancy and almost lost bubs ... so didnt get to enjoy pregnancy or do the fun pregnancy stuff/babyshowers etc as she was too sick and barely could get up from the couch most days was an effort to even get up and go for her scans and tests (with new midwife)
-- but we looked after her and got her presents and i won a few cool babystuff for her too ... so made her smile despite everything ..... and yes she had bubs just over 3 mo ago and he was 6 lbs something so pretty small but healthy and he still fits NB clothes but luckily didnt have to be in the premmie ward and was home the next day!

Thanks for the replies everyone, funny that you should mention the midwife thing I find mine a litle bit casual I guess it is because she does this every day and for me it is the first time so she tends to take for granted that I am fine I feel a bit rushed pee on the stick take the blood pressure and on your way but feels a little late in the game to change

I feel the excitement with you guys!Everyone is excited to see their baby after 9 months of conception. The nearing due date of expecting mothers makes them look forward on the big day.Its a natural feeling!Just like the article I have read about the performance artist Marni Kotak, 36,will soon give birth before a live audience at the Microscope Gallery in the Bushwick community of Brooklyn, New York.I guess she's overwhelmed with excitement.source article: Live birth performance art coming to New York gallery
