Hi Kaye, thanks for your message. I guess when it comes to buying a new camera, it totally depends on what you have used before and your budget. The Canon G11 and the newer model is AMAZING, what I'd call a pro compact camera. gives you stunning professional quality shots if you know how to use it. I also use pro DSLR's but not all are created equal. If I were you, email the guys at Photo & Video in CHCH, www.photo.co.nz and ask them to recommend a model or 2, tell them your budget and what you are photographing. There are SO many cameras out there its hard to choose. x Gill
