Yup, as expected. Power prices are on the rise again. And it looks as if those of us who are in Auckland are going to be hit the hardest.

What I found interesting about this article, is it suggested that figures from Powershop show an average sized home in Auckland will face a total bill of up to $805 for June to August!!!! Umm ouch!!! I have never had a bill even half that size in winter! If i get a bill that big we will be up a certain creek without a paddle!!!

How big are your power bills this time of year? Anyone have one close to that?

Plunge in the price of natural gas has made it cheaper for utilities to produce electricity. But the savings aren't translating to lower rates for customers. Instead, U.S. electricity prices are going up.

Yes, the first month after we moved into this house was July and it was $800!!!! we couldn't beleive it and it is a really hard house to heat economically, we have managed to keep it much lower but a usual winter month is at least $450. The first thing we did to reduce cost's was turn off the underfloor heating - it is a really exxpensive form of heating!

Ours came today, $290 for electricity and gas - higher than last year at the same time but no where near as much as some people's bills. We have a large house so heating is one of our biggest users of electricity.
