Lawyers for both sides had been trying to avoid a public and very messy fight in court, with speedy resolution a top priority. The former A-list power couple released a joint statement saying: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests…"

Tom has apparently insisted that he get “meaningful and significant” contact with Suri, though it is unclear yet what kind of exposure Suri will continue to have with the church of Scientology. Some speculations are that bodyguards will accompany Suri on visits with her father to ensure he doesn’t expose her to his religious beliefs, while their joint statement suggests they will respect each other’s beliefs.

That was a quick divorce settlement for a Hollywood couple if ever I saw one! I wonder how they’ll arrange the religion thing. Is keeping one parent’s religion from the kids really feasible?

Lawyers have confirmed that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have settled their divorce, with unconfirmed reports stating that Katie has sole custody of six-year-old daughter, Suri.
