To keep within my budget I use a lot of mince; beef, pork, chicken and even venison�when it’s on special. We make meatballs, spag bol, lasagne, nachos. All yummy but all starting to get tired through overuse.

Anyone have some new ideas? I need some inspiration.

We stuff cooked mince into capsicums (when they're not so expensive!) seal the tops with mashed potato and fry them a bit, very yummy! Or stuff mince into mashed potato hollows, seal, shape like cutlets, dip in beaten egg, coat in breadcrumbs and shallow fry - everyone loves them! I make plain pancakes with thinned out batter and fill them with mince and roll them up like burritos instead of using tortillas. Or use eggs and make egg rolls.

Oh, I also forgot to say you can chuck in whatever vegges you have, but just put mushrooms, courgettes, spinach or silver beet in towards the end so it doesn't go mushy.

I've put kumara, pumpkin and beans in mine before. It's so easy, kids love it and they never complain about eating the vegges. :-)

Okay, as promised:

SAVORY MINCE:
Mince (how ever much you need, I used 800gr and that fed 4 adults and two kids)
Onion
Garlic (about 6 cloves)
Celery
Carrots
Potatoes (you can use as many as you want!)
Can of Tomatoes (When they're on special I get the canned cherry tomatoes, but any will do.)
Soya Sauce (a good quality dark one)
Worcestershire Sauce
Oil (not much, just a splash)
Mixed Herbs (whatever you have in the cupboard)
Bay Leaves (two or three is about the right amount)
Salt and Pepper to taste

Really easy and all in one pot!

In a good sized pot/pan gentle saute the onion and garlic (careful not to burn the garlic).
Add the mince until it is brown.
Add the carrots and celery and fry a little, add soya and Worcestershire sauce and canned tomatoes, throw in the rest of the vegges and turn down to a simmer.
Add the herbs, bay leaves, salt, pepper and more soya or Worcestershire sauce to taste.

Let it bubble away and do it's think until everything is cooked.

We have it with rice.

Forgot to say cut all the vegges into bite sized bits for even cooking! ENJOY!!!

With minced pork, make into meatballs, wrap in bacon and bake with a yorkshire pudding batter to make "toad in the hole".

We use alot of mince in our household well, we have a recipe for homemade mince patties for burgers (if anyone wants I will post it up) we use quite regularly. We also do Nachos, sheperd's pie is great for chucking in all the veges and stretching mince even further (I add a layer of hash browns in the bottom of the dish sometimes for a wee surprise too). I've done meatballs in the slow cooker before and they were delicious too. Can't wait to see what others come up with!

Oooh my MiL makes an awesome savoury mince, in one pot and served with mash or rice, it's divine and soooo quick, easy and cheap! I'm rushing now, but I'll post the recipe later today!
It is also a great way to get the 5+ a day happening as it uses heaps of vegges! :-)

Anohter thing that goes great with mince is filo pastry so maybe you can try making some filo pastry mince thingys:):)

We love turkey mince as well and as well as being probably the most heathly mince you can make all the same stuff with a little bit of experimenting, I tend to experiment with all my minces and many of the dinners that my family like the best have been mince experiments:):)

I make spag bol a lot, it's one of our favourites so no-ones minds that we have it every couple of weeks,  shepherds pie, meatballs and meatloaf often as well. Chilli con carne is my latest and I also use one of those taco flavour sachets and fry mince with it and have tacos, they're yum.
